Successful Love Your Block Cleanup
On the beautiful morning of Saturday, May 11, an energetic group of Beautification Committee members of the Eagle Hill Civic Association volunteered as the Eagle Hill contingent of Boston's annual Love Your Block Cleanup. According to the East Boston Times-Free Press, East Boston benefited from the largest turnout of any community in the City, with 240 volunteers dedicating their time and energy to improving Eastie. Armed with tools and free t-shirts and gloves, Eagle Hill's large team spread out in groups over the neighborhood's streets to pick up trash, mulch tree beds, and plant flowers. The volunteers were encouraged by many of their neighbors, who thanked them for their efforts, and who asked them for information about the Beautification Committee and the Eagle Hill Civic Association. After three hours of hard work, the streets were the cleanest and greenest that they have been in recent memory, and the volunteers were treated to snacks and drinks by the City.
The Beautification Committee intends to use this successful showing as a springboard to regular neighborhood cleanups.
