Eastie Farm & TREE Eastie offering rainbarrels!
Submitted by Bill Masterson, TREE Eastie

Rain barrels have extraordinary benefits. In addition to conserving water and saving money, they prevent pollutants found in storm water runoff from entering our rivers and harbor. Most importantly, coming into the summer months, rain barrels provide a much-needed source of water for your plants, vegetables and trees. In fact new trees require 20 gallons of water per week to ensure they survive the first two years.
That is why Eastie Farm and Tree Eastie have partnered to bring rain barrels to the community! With barrels donated from The Orleans Packing Co (founded in Eastie!) and money granted from New England Grassroots Environment Fund (NEGEF), the two organizations have been able to retrofit barrels into fully functioning 60-gallon rain barrels. The barrels are olive green in color to blend nicely into your landscape.
Rain barrels are available immediately for all Eastie residents on a sliding scale of $10-$30. Rain barrels this size typically cost over $100. Your donation will be used to fund future environmental programs in East Boston.
Best of all, socially distanced volunteers are available to help you pick the right location and set up your rain barrel, so there is no excuse not to order one. If you have any questions or would like to order one and organize delivery, please email eastiefarm@gmail.com. Or you can order on line here. Cash, check, or Venmo is accepted. If you’d like more than one barrel, fittings will be supplied to allow them to daisy chain together. Installation instructions are available.
The growing season is fully underway with drought conditions already appearing. So now is the time to help your planet and your garden by taking advantage of this terrific offer to install a rain barrel on your property.
